With the current rise in unemployment reaching over five million, scams are starting to pop up on the internet. Unfortunately, in today's society when there are people that are desperate, there are people desperate to take advantage. These scammers are building websites and bogus companies offering to find employment for those who are searching. They call these companies recruitment firms, which are usually legitimate companies. However, these companies are much different. Rather than offering their services for free to job seekers they are charging fees.
These scams will offer guaranteed employment or guaranteed interviews for a set fee. Some are even charging a fee to join their website and list your resume. They state that it is possible to guarantee your resume is seen by well known companies that offer high paying jobs. A few of these scams are even offering their services based on the number of searches you complete. You can pay one fee for unlimited monthly searches or a smaller fee to search for a few times. In any of these cases, you should never be charged a fee.
Legitimate recruiting companies never charge a fee to job seekers. They are employed by companies that are searching for qualified applicants. These companies pay fees to list their positions for job seekers. The recruiters then list the positions and screen the applicants for the company. In some cases, the recruiting firms make additional money if the person they recommend is hired for the position. When recruitment firms work in this way, it makes the process fair. After all, no one should ever be considered more than another because they paid for the interview. If you are searching for a legitimate recruitment site, you should never be charged a fee to join or access areas of the site.
Another scam to watch for is recruitment firms that charge for testing or resume editing. While it is true that some companies charge a fee for a background check or drug test, this fee should not be paid to a recruiting firm. Some recruiting firms also require a personality test or intelligence test. These should also be free of charge for job seekers. However, some recruitment companies will offer non-required services for a fee. A few of these companies offer services to help you build a resume or design services for resumes, but these should never be a required part of using the service. These additional services should be offered as a benefit for job seekers who need the service.
If you are one of the millions of people now searching for employment, you have to be aware of these scams. If these unscrupulous individuals are willing to take your money for the so called fees, there is no telling what they might do once they have your credit card information. Play it safe and use recruitment firms that do not charge for their services. You can also check out most of these companies through the Better Business Bureau or online watchdog groups for additional assurance.
